Hello! The Iowa Chapter ASLA is looking forward to hosting everyone April 19-21st in Des Moines, Iowa!
As you likely know, there have been a few challenges pulling the details of this event together after our original location canceled earlier this year. That said, everything is coming together and we are expecting it to be a great event! Here are some last minute details as you finalize travel plans and schedules:
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19
Everyone coming into town Wednesday or locals who would like to join us – we have made arrangements for an informal welcome receptionat Buzzard Billy’s, (615 3rd Street, Des Moines, IA 50309). Buzzard Billy’s is a short distance (4 blocks) NW of the World Food Prize. Parking is also available should you choose to drive. We will be providing conference attendees with a drink ticket for their first drink and will also be providing some light appetizers for people to enjoy.
THURSDAY, APRIL 20
On Thursday, please be aware that there is NO PARKING at the World Food Prize, only limited side street meter parking. The venue is a short walk from the Staybridge. The Marriott should be providing shuttle service, but please coordinate with them in advance to coordinate departure and/or pick up times.
As you arrive on Thursday morning please enter through the main doors which are located along the river (east) side of the building. Check-in will be inside the door.
We will be providing breakfast refreshments that will include a variety of baked goods, cut fruit, yogurt, coffee and water. We encourage you to mingle with exhibitors over breakfast. Coffee and water will only be provided and refreshed at breakfast and lunch. We have tried our best to meet the needs of the most common dietary restrictions and preferences. If you have other dietary needs or preferences that are not accommodated by this menu please be sure to plan accordingly. Lunch on Thursday will be a build-your-own Street Taco buffet that will include Pork Carnitas, Grilled Chicken and Black Beans accompanied by rice and other taco toppings and along with assorted brownies for dessert.
On Thursday afternoon we are planning a tour in conjunction with the Livable Des Moines education session, followed by a social event at the Des Moines Social Club (900 Mulberry, Street, Des Moines, IA 50309). Drinks and light appetizers will be available. In order to accommodate a later event at the Social Club we will need to wrap up around 7pm, which should provide plenty of opportunities for attendees to explore the many restaurants, gardens and breweries Downtown Des Moines has to offer.
FRIDAY, APRIL 21
As you arrive on Friday morning please enter through the main doors on the river (east) side of the building. Please remember the World Food Prize does not have parking, only limited side street meter parking. For those only attending Friday sessions or the Awards Luncheon, you too will find Check-In right inside the door.
We will be providing breakfast refreshments on Friday morning which will include bagels and cream cheese, fresh berries, yogurt, coffee and water. Coffee and water will only be provided and refreshed at breakfast and lunch. We have tried our best to meet the needs of the most common dietary restrictions and preferences. If you have other dietary needs or preferences that are not accommodated by this menu again, please be sure to plan accordingly. Friday lunch will be served as a part of the Awards Banquet and will include a buffet of Tuscan Chicken, Pasta Primavera, salad, herbed potatoes, mixed vegetables, rolls and gourmet cookies.
World Food Prize is open for setup from Noon to 5pm on Wednesday, April 19th.
SHIPPING OF MATERIALS – World Food Prize can not provide shipping to or from their location. All items can be shipped to ASLA Iowa, 200 W. 2nd Avenue, Indianola, IA 50125. Please email email@example.com with subject line SHIPPING to make us aware of these expected shipments so we can coordinate for the short term storage of these items. A group of volunteers will then be picking up the items and transport them to the World Food Prize. Items will be available at World Food Prize for you to work on setup starting at NOON on Wednesday.
For those who are bringing your own display materials there is a drop off located on the south side of the building. Main door entry that includes accessible entry is located on the river (east) side of the building. To allow for efficient drop off and setup please do not leave your car in the drop off avenue for longer than 15 minutes so others can gain access to this limited space. All vendors should be set up and be out of the building by 5:00PM, Wednesday, April 19th.
All vendors who require materials and supplies to be shipped back should plan to assist with tear down and loading of those items into the vehicles of our volunteers at the close of the event on Friday. Those items will be delivered back to ASLA Iowa, 200 W. 2nd Avenue, Indianola, IA 50125 on Friday evening and vendors should make their own arrangements to have a shipping company pick up those items from that location for return shipment. All items must be shipped out by end of day Wednesday, April 26th. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org the details of these arrangements so the appropriate materials can be pulled out at the appropriate time.
AVAILABLE SPACE AND ELECTRIC – Vendor booth spaces are 7 foot deep by 7 foot 8 inches wide and include a 6 foot table. ELECTRIC is being provided to all booths.
